Vintage Pan American Trumpet 1928, Silver Plating, Conn, Elkhart
Up for consideration is this vintage, 1928, Pan American trumpet. I think it is a model 30B and can be switched between concert Bb and A; the “A” tuning slide is seized. It is in good condition overall but does have general wear on the normal areas. The silver plating has some loss and light scratching, but is mostly complete. The first, second, third, and main tuning slides are free and lubricated. The valves work great and are very responsive, but do have plating loss. Regardless of that, the horns compression is very good. The serial numbers match on the pistons. Although nothing major, there are a few dings on the bell. It doesn’t appear to have had any major trauma or previous repair work. The second slide has dents. Though playable as-is, it could use some general maintenance to bring it up to its fullest potential. It has been cleaned with a mild soap/ water/ brushing. King Trombone with its solid sterling silver bell section is one of the best looking Trombones every made. Killer engraving make this Trombone a true show stopper. This trombone fits dimensionally what later became the 2B. This Trombone does not have a bell lock, please keep this in mind. This Trombone has not been restored. The body of the Trombone is in great shape and has some very small scratches. No deep scratches, and there are some very small dings that would not show up in the pictures. All sections are stamped with the appropriately matched serial numbers. The slide is smooth and fast in all positions and an ease to play. The slide has been serviced by The Slide Doctor and is in ready to play condition. The slide operates smoothly, we rate it an eight out of ten. This slide is a vintage slide and not as nice as later King trombones. The finish is original gold plate, 95% perfect. The engraving is crisp and clear. There is no lacquer on the bell. Gold wash in the bell is original (85% perfect). The slide is original, both inner and outer tubes. The inner slide looks almost new and has very little wear. The slide is vintage but is an eight out of ten when compared to todays slides. Comes with original lyr. Comes with gold pated HN White #28 mouthpiece. Comes with HN White made case and new MTS case. This case is original to the Trombone and is in poor condition. The exterior of the case is in less than condition. The interior of the case is in worse condition than the exterior. Someone may want to restore the case that is why we are including it. This Trombone is a true super star now looking for a new home. Vintage Calicchio Bb Trumpet, #9 Lead Pipe & #3 Bell, New Silver Plating
This is a pre-owned Calicchio Bb trumpet. It is silver plated with a #9 lead pipe and a #3 yellow brass bell. It is a hybrid of a medium bore valve block. 453 with medium large bore. It has had a precision valve alignment done through Osmun Music in Acton, MA. It has also been re-plated recently. The prep work was done by at Osmun Music and plating work was done through Anderson Silver Plating. This particular horn features a Los Angeles valve block and bell. The horn has been recently cleaned and serviced by Osmun Music and is ready to play right out of the box. New pads, corks, felts, etc. This is considered a lightweight, very free blowing horn that would lend itself perfectly for big band (especially lead chair) or commercial music. This horn is very quick responding and can be very bright and cutting with the right mouthpiece. From Calicchio’s website. This is the largest-flared bell that Calicchio offers. If you like a broad, warm, lush sound surrounding a powerful core and dense timbre, then this is the bell for you. It is used by lead, solo and section players alike, as the sound can be molded to fit any particular need. With the 2 or 3 leadpipes, it can handle the rigors of any lead or show book, but with the 7 or 9 pipe, it takes on a flavor reminiscent of the vintage Meha Bessons and large bore Martin Committee models. Big, warm, luxurious, fluid, and powerful are all words that describe the magic of this bell. The 9 pipe is our most free-blowing leadpipe.
