Vintage, MASSIVE 24 NICKEL PLATED/Silver Plated Boulton & Watt Serving Tray. This a gorgeous piece and its in excellent condition with no dings, dents, pits, plate loss or monogram. I have been trying to do some research on this item and from what I can tell, the piece is a copy of the original and it says so on the reverse of the tray where it is marked as you can see in the very last picture. From what I can tell the maker made sterling and silver plated pieces in the 17-1800’s in England. The Sterling was made for those who could afford it and then copper pieces were made and silver plated for those who could not afford the sterling. This particular piece is from an estate that had this piece re-plated just before the lady passed away. She told me that this item was NICKEL PLATED, not re-silvered. There is a difference in that with the item being nickel plated means it never has to be cleaned, & that is my kind of silver. She says just to wipe it down with a clean cloth every 6 months or so. The piece has a brighter finish than silver plate does. The piece has a mirror finish as well and I can see myself in the center of the tray. When you look at the last picture you can see in my fingers in the reflection. This piece has magnificent detailing on the edges and in the center. The piece measures 23 3/4 inches in diameter and it has a raised edge but the piece is flat with no feet as you can see. What this piece has going for it is age, size & that is has been re-plated. You will never have to have that done again in your lifetime and maybe not in your children;s either. The piece has good weight and once packed will weigh 15 pounds.
