Wonderful Victorian full table / dinner service cutlery canteen for 12 persons that includes serving spoons, ladles and two carving sets for turkey / lamb / game. Housed in a two-tier fitted dark-stained oak canteen that is raised on bun feet, has a pull out drawer with brass handles, is trimmed with an ornate high-relief border and has a vacant oval brass cartouche to lid. The interior is lined with brown felt and pale yellow cotton. There is an internal security system – if the lid is not raised, it’s impossible to pull out the drawer. This is a harlequin set with pieces by various makers, including John Round & Sons, Sheffield; Danier & Arter, Birmingham; Walker & Hall, Sheffield; Hukin & Heath, Birmingham and date to 1890’s to 1940’s. The cutlery is predominantly in Old English and Hanoverian pattern, except for the tea and egg spoons that have ornate fluted handles and high-relief decoration. Scuffing and scratches to box commensurate with age and use; crack to base of box; some light staining to table and dessert knife blades; one table knife has nick to blade and nicks to handle; one table fork has slightly uneven prong; scuffing to ivorine handles of four dessert knives; one dessert knife blade has a split; chip to tip of one carving knife; one carving fork has a loose stand; some wear to silvering to the large ladle, soup spoons, egg spoons, dessert spoons and dessert forks; scratch to the bowl of one dessert spoon; tiny faint marks to the bowls of some teaspoons; small dark marks to 6 of the egg spoons.
