Antique silver plate cased 113 piece 12 person cutlery canteen; soup sauce ladle. This product data sheet is originally written in English. Wonderful Victorian full table / dinner service cutlery canteen for 12 persons that includes serving spoons, ladles and two carving sets for turkey / lamb / game. Housed in a two-tier fitted dark-stained oak canteen that is raised on bun feet, has a pull out drawer with brass handles, is trimmed with an ornate high-relief border and has a vacant oval brass cartouche to lid. The interior is lined with brown felt and pale yellow cotton. There is an internal security system – if the lid is not raised, it’s impossible to pull out the drawer. This is a harlequin set with pieces by various makers, including John Round & Sons, Sheffield; Danier & Arter, Birmingham; Walker & Hall, Sheffield; Hukin & Heath, Birmingham and date to 1890’s to 1940’s. The cutlery is predominantly in Old English and Hanoverian pattern, except for the tea and egg spoons that have ornate fluted handles and high-relief decoration. Scuffing and scratches to box commensurate with age and use; crack to base of box; some light staining to table and dessert knife blades; one table knife has nick to blade and nicks to handle; one table fork has slightly uneven prong; scuffing to ivorine handles of four dessert knives; one dessert knife blade has a split; chip to tip of one carving knife; one carving fork has a loose stand; some wear to silvering to the large ladle, soup spoons, egg spoons, dessert spoons and dessert forks; scratch to the bowl of one dessert spoon; tiny faint marks to the bowls of some teaspoons; small dark marks to 6 of the egg spoons. Vintage Danish Stjerne Silver Plate Cutlery set for 12. Beautiful set is in very good condition. There are 12 dinner knives made by Conval with composite cream coloured handles and stainless steel blades, 215mm long, 12 dinner forks 190, 12 dinner or Continental soup spoons 195mm, 12 dessert spoons, 176mm, 12 teaspoons 118mm long, a large serving spoon, a cake server, a sauce or gravy ladle, a cream spoon, 2 jam spoons and 5 small meat forks. There are 71 pieces. The knives came with the set and suit it well. The pieces are in the pattern called Stjerne by famous Danish designer Jens Harald Qusitgaard which features a stylish cross hatch design with traditional horizontal banding to the necks. The shape is quite flat and gently bowed to the centre of the handles. Each piece is marked with the maker Finn Christensen’s distinctive stamp, Prima, for first qualirty silver pate, and the initials JHQ for the designer. The silver plating to the pieces is bright, reflective and shiny. There is no flaking, corrosion or pitting to the silver plating. The back of the fork tines show a small amount of wear and there is a small amount of silver loss to the neck of the large spoon only. The knives are clean and the handles well seated with no movement or corrosion. This is a beautiful and stylish designer setting made to last for many years to come. For Imperial measurement users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches. Vintage Danish Cohr Riberhus Silver Plate Cutlery Set 12 person Jacobsen

Vintage Danish Carl M Cohr Gense Riberhus Silver Plate Cutlery set for 12. Beautiful set is in very good condition. There are 12 hollow handle dinner knives, 12 hollow handle entree knives, 12 dinner forks, 12 entree forks, 12 dessert spoons, 12 Continental soup spoons or tablespoons, 12 teaspoons, a large serving fork, 2 small serving forks, large cake knife, a gravy/sauce ladle, a bottle opener, a salt spoon, a cake server and various serving spoons. There are 94 pieces. The entree knives are a rarity. The pieces are in the design called Riberhus and features a single flower design to the finial with further decorations to the handles and scrolls to the backs. Jacobsen designed the pattern in the 1930’s but due to the start of WW2 the drawings were stored and the pattern finally released in the 1950’s. It became a success and the pattern is still very popular today with its timeless design. The silver plated pieces are marked to the backs Cohr Atla and have the Danish silver plate quality torch mark used since 1932. Some of the knife blades are also marked for Cohr, others are marked Raadvad and all are marked stainless steel Denmark. The set would date to around the 1950’s. Cohr silver was one of the more highly regarded silver workshops in Denmark finally closing its doors in 1987. Along with a few other Corh patterns Gense now produces Riberhus cutlery. The silver plating to the pieces is bright, reflective and shiny. There is no flaking, corrosion, pitting or wear to the silver plating. Even the fork tines show no wear through to the plating. There are very fine scratches from use. The high quality of Cohr cutlery shows in the way this set presents after so many years. I find the plating on Danish cutlery far superior to most English and Australian sets of a similar era. This is a beautiful and stylish setting. The set weighs over 5 kilos.
