Vintage Danish Carl M Cohr Gense Riberhus Silver Plate Cutlery set for 12. Beautiful set is in very good condition. There are 12 hollow handle dinner knives, 12 hollow handle entree knives, 12 dinner forks, 12 entree forks, 12 dessert spoons, 12 Continental soup spoons or tablespoons, 12 teaspoons, a large serving fork, 2 small serving forks, large cake knife, a gravy/sauce ladle, a bottle opener, a salt spoon, a cake server and various serving spoons. There are 94 pieces. The entree knives are a rarity. The pieces are in the design called Riberhus and features a single flower design to the finial with further decorations to the handles and scrolls to the backs. Jacobsen designed the pattern in the 1930’s but due to the start of WW2 the drawings were stored and the pattern finally released in the 1950’s. It became a success and the pattern is still very popular today with its timeless design. The silver plated pieces are marked to the backs Cohr Atla and have the Danish silver plate quality torch mark used since 1932. Some of the knife blades are also marked for Cohr, others are marked Raadvad and all are marked stainless steel Denmark. The set would date to around the 1950’s. Cohr silver was one of the more highly regarded silver workshops in Denmark finally closing its doors in 1987. Along with a few other Corh patterns Gense now produces Riberhus cutlery. The silver plating to the pieces is bright, reflective and shiny. There is no flaking, corrosion, pitting or wear to the silver plating. Even the fork tines show no wear through to the plating. There are very fine scratches from use. The high quality of Cohr cutlery shows in the way this set presents after so many years. I find the plating on Danish cutlery far superior to most English and Australian sets of a similar era. This is a beautiful and stylish setting. The set weighs over 5 kilos. For Imperial measurement users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches.
