Although unmarked as to it’s composition, this original generation of flatware tests positive for. 925 sterling with the exception of the steak knives, however having also been referenced as silver plate, no affirmation is being made as to the composition of this flatware. Unlike this original generation, s ubsequent generations of flatware for the hotel are engraved SP for silver plate, and have a noticeably altered pattern on both the front and backsides. All pieces noted above are in very good or excellent condition with no damage. Some steak knives may need to be sharpened. The fish knives, rarely used any longer, have a notch on their blades to remove bones from fish on the plate. All pieces will fit tightly but neatly in the vintage oak flatware chest, with the exception of the steak knives and the soup ladle. The flatware chest is in good condition and has a burgundy felt interior with no stains, discolorations, or signs of any wear. The Grand Opening on Park Avenue in New York was October 1, 1931. New York’s Waldorf-Astoria remains one of the largest Art Deco buildings in the world.
