This is a silver plated bracelet made in a distinctive modernist / brutalist style by Robert Larin of Canada. The bracelet measures 8 1/2 inches around, following the contour of the piece from the exterior. Following the contour from the interior t measures 7 1/4 inches around. It has a width of 1 1/4 inches. It is in very good condition with some slight wear on the interior metal, caused by having been used and loved. The piece is signed, but barely visible – one can make out the arin in Larin, but the rest is worn off (see last close-up photo). In any case, this is a known Larin form. Larin worked from 1968 to 1977, mostly in pewter that he would accent with electroplated silver and oxidation. He used the lost wax method, unusual for pewter as it is most often reserved for more precious metals. The piece would then be hand polished to remove any rough spots. He employed some 25 workers at his Papineau St. Workshop, located in Montreal. This bracelet features an oxidized background with a silver plated raised pattern giving play to the contrast in light and dark, typical of brutalist design. It is made with four curved rectangular pieces that are linked together with the central focus of each link being a cup shape that holds a brass ball. It closes with a pin that is affixed to chains attached to either end of the bracelet. This is a exceptional example of Robert Larins very distinctive jewelry.
