Large Vintage Silver Plate Serving Tray & Handles Victorian English Butler 70cm
Large Vintage Silver Plate Serving Tray & Handles William Hutton Victorian English Butler. This is an interesting silver plated large tray in the classic Victorian Style. The handles are ornate on top and bottom. Made by William Hutton at the end of the nineteenth century, the chased engraving on the top is typical of the late Victorian period. The marks underneath show WH & S for William Hutton and Sons, Hard Soldered – this was a type of silver plating superior to the standard silver plating method of the time, as it involves using extra silver in the process. William Hutton was a famous silversmith who manufactured many types of goods from around 1800 to 1930, when they were acquired by another famous silversmith, James Dixon. This very large butler tray is in excellent condition, with no wear to plate on top The underneath of the tray has a border of wear around the rim where it would have rested on a table top – this can be clearly seen in the photos. Length of the tray: about 70cm (27 inches) including handles, about 56cm (22 inches) excluding handles. Width: about 44cm (17.5 inches). Height: about 2cm (0.75 inches). Weight: 3.5 kilos. I always pack carefully to make sure they arrive safely and quickly.
