Antique Long Beaded Purse With Silver Plated Chain And Closure – hand beaded, two sided – one with a beautiful Peacock and the other blue and white scene with deer. Initials are embroidered on the inside lining (JH) and there is a small pocket on the interior lining – the button has come off but itbis inside the purse. There are a few spots where the silver plating has runbed off to reveal brass underneath. Suspected to be late 1800’s because of Victorian motifs. 13″ long from top of clasp to bottom of fringe, 7.5″ wide at the top and chain has a 6 drop to purse. Some of the stitching is loose at the top but there are not any holes visible. It measures about 15 1/2 long from top of clasp to bottom of fringe (obviously not including chain). It is about 8 1/4 wide. It is in excellent condition overall. There is a little bit of wear to cloth on right and left ends where cloth attaches to frame. There are some small losses to fringe. There are a couple areas on one side where some beads have bits of whitish residue of some sort. The silverplate frame has some tarnish. There are other minor spots of wear. Trophy, presented to the winners of the big Foxtrot Dance contest at Long Beach’s famous Cinderella Ballroom, October 24th, 1924. Presented to Janovine Hunt and Hal Tucker (soon to be married according to public records). Truly one of a kind. The big Cinderella was torn down long ago. Approximately 11 tall, some evidence of having been dropped: bottom out of round in two spots, top out of round near one handle. I like the patina so will leave it on, but would clean up well if you are so inclined.
