WHAT A FABULOUS ANTIQUE HALLMARKED MATCHED VICTORIAN SET OF 12 ENGLISH SILVER DINNER PLATES. IT IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY. And of stupendous weight and very special being in such fine order. A quite fabulous late 19th Century hallmarked silver set of items. It has a most attractive shape. Shell and gadroon borders. Seven are dated 1900 and by top makers Sydney Bellamy Harman. Five are dated 1882 and by Robert Harper. Each six lobed (sided) plate bears retailer’s stamp for HARMAN 177 NEW BOND ST LONDON. Each is a wonderful round large plate (refer to image). Each is 10.25 inches in width. Height is 0.625 inch. A wonderful set of highly unusual dinner plates. Definitely one for the collectors! A truly special antique lot well worth owning. The condition is excellent and all it needs is to be used. Each is engraved with a divine bull head crest and always has been. And a beautiful palm tree crest too. Would make a very nice present indeed. Each lovely platter is of exceptional quality and is a most delightful piece of hefty table silver. Weight of silver is a staggering 8966 grams (288.30 troy ounces), each piece is made of very thick gauge silver throughout. In fact, we have another six to match retained in stock, should a straight dozen be required. These six plates are numbered from “1” to “6” on the reverse sides adjacent to the hallmarks. Made at the height of the Regency period in the prevalent style of the period, these Georgian dinner plates are as good as you will find. They have a fabulous feeling of high quality in the hand and are decorated with a gadroon border around the circular wavy edge. With the Battle of Waterloo taking place in 1815, it was an important year in British history and Paul Storr managed a busy silversmithing workshop on behalf of the Royal Goldsmiths, Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. With a wealthy, aristocratic clientele, it is no great surprise to see these plates expertly engraved with a set of coat-of-arms to one side and a baron’s coronet to the opposing edge. Lenox – Twelve Cabinet / Service Plates, Circa 1924 1830 / Y48Q Silver Lenox. For your consideration, fabulous vintage Lenox plates. Dinner size at 10-1/2″ diameter features a richly decorated shoulder in encrusted sterling silver (5/8″ wide) and sterling paste (raised) details. Fabulous to find these twelve together and the sterling plates are even that much more special! How breathtaking they will be on your table or cabinet! Meticulously detailed with overflowing baskets of flowers that are each surrounded by graduated sterling “beads”. Sophisticated scroll work further acts to enhance and delight. Please see the close-up image of the silver flowers, the life-like rendering is unmistakable. Painstaking details such as these were only applied by the most skilled artisan. These plates are a fine example of what made Lenox China a company that could compete against what the European factories were producing. As with all Lenox from this period, these plates have a beautiful translucency that has defined the period and has not been reproduced. The china is the standard Lenox ivory color, not white. Absolutely lovely condition, without any restoration. Five plates have light scuffs, nothing extreme but present in the well of the plate. The balance of the plates may or may not have a whisper light scratch here or there, nothing that would be noticeable and would be the exception, not the rule. As with any sterling, polishing brings out the beautiful color. I polished two for photography and it was a breeze. Please take a look at our other Lenox listings.
