Vintage Canteen of Cutlery 58+ pcs Old English fake bone and silver plate W&H. This is a celluloid made to resemble Ivory in both colour and texture. A superb 58+ piece vintage Canteen of faux’bone’ handled and silver plated cutlery [flatware] in the Old English pattern and seated in a Solid Wood Double Tier Box [Mid Oak] with a green felted interior – working top quality hinges and neat shutting. The cutlery was made by Sheffield master cutlers Walker and Hall and all the flatware has the engravings for that company together with the Walker and Hall pennent on each piece as well. Truely top quality flatware. This is truly an excellent set. A good canteen in every way. Six each of. Spoon tea [the only subs – 3 are replacements of the same size]. Sugar Nips Enormous Soup ladle 2x sauce ladles. Spoon – table [2] condiment spoons. The photographs give an excellent idea of the great condition of this extremely heavy item. All the knives are in the style of the palette knife – that is with straight sides to each blade and a D ending. The egg waterloo bolsters All blades are marked Walker and Hall Non Stain Stainless. The dinner knives are 24 cms. The dessert knives being 20.5 cms. It is most likely that handle composition is Ivorine composition[a man made composite made to resemble Ivory also termed xylonite]. Although this is a set from the 1930/40’s imitation Ivory has been produced since the late 1860’s. The flatware which is all Old English is marked W&H SHA W&H. You will see from the photographs that everything sits well in the box. The box is in good used condition internally and externally There has been scratching to the top and it does show its age. Condition Report This is a used set but with the cutlery hardly in noticably fine condition. It came to me with three missing teaspoons – they have been replaced with similar. The canvas handles on the upper tray are frayed and show their age. I have not mentioned the carving set. All in all a good and complete canteen that sits together very well.
