Exquisite Large and Impressive Antique Sheffield Silver Plate Epergne Centerpiece Vase featuring 4 Full Bodied Lions on the Base with each Reclining above a Mythical Winged Creature Foot. At the Juncture of Each Arm are 4 Winged Dragons. It is Topped with a Trumpet Vase Etched with Giant Lizards, Flying Fish, Bugs, Leaves, and Grasses. It was made by the very fine Sheffield Silversmiths John Round & Sons and dates to the Aesthetic Period from the 1870s through 1880s when the Aesthetic Period flourished in Britain. Signed on bottom: 1866 Around the World JR & S A and various other marks… Please see last photo. Measures: Overall Height with Trumpet Vase in place: 27 1/4. Silver plate Epergne without Trumpet Vase: 22″ high x 11″ wide x 11 deep. Trumpet Vase: 7 5/8″ high with an 6 7/8″ diameter. Length of Winged Dragons: 4. 4 Circular Areas for Bowls or Candles: 2 1/8 interior diameter. Excellent condition, however, it is missing its 4 bowls. The bowl spaces are perfect for small candles which could easily be used in their place to convert this into a candelabra. The tip of one winged dragon tail is missing which does not distract and was not noticed until we took close-up photos. Nuts to secure arms might be replacements, however, we are unsure. No chips or cracks to the glass. The Detail is Crisp as it has only been carefully polished by hand. It is very heavy and may require more than one box.
