Vintage Canteen of Cutlery 62 pcs Old English fake bone and silver plate Sanders. This is a celluloid made to resemble Ivory in both colour and texture. A superb 62 piece vintage Canteen of faux’bone’ handled and silver plated cutlery [flatware] in the Old English pattern and seated in a Solid Wood Box [Oak] with a red felted interior – working top quality hinges and neat shutting. This is truly an excellent set. Alterations have been made to some pieces. A good canteen in every way. Six each of. Knife Dessert Knife Fish. Fork Dessert Fork Fish. Spoon tea Spoon Coffee/Egg. Spoon – table [2]. The photographs give an excellent idea of the great condition of this extremely heavy item. All the knives are in the style of the palette knife – that is with straight sides and a D end to the blade. The egg waterloo bolsters All blades are marked Sanders and Company Firth Brearley Stainless. The dinner knives are 24 cms. The dessert knives being 20.5 cms. Three of the dessert knives have been substituted and these are marked George Wood and Sons ESt 1793. It is most likely that handle composition is Ivorine composition[a man made composite made to resemble Ivory also termed xylonite]. Although this is a set from the 1930/40’s imitation Ivory has been produced since the late 1860’s. The flatware which is all Old English is marked Vicroy plate except for the substitution of tea spoons and dessert spoons which are marked Arthur Price & C0 EPNS. You will see from the photographs that everything sits well in the box. The box is in good used condition internally and externally There has been scratching to the top and it does show its age. Condition Report This is a used set but with the cutlery in noticably fine condition. It came to me with the above substituted pieces missing. I have sourced flatware of equal and matching quality to replace them. You would not be disappointed. All in all a good and complete canteen that sits together very well.
