WMF Art Nouveau / Jugendstil. Tea / Coffee Set, Silver Plate, this set is hands down the most highly prized Art Nouveau tea set ever produced by Wurttemberg Metal Factory or any other for that matter. These sets Rarely come up for sale, I have only seen three or four in the past 20 years and they will show up at places like Christies when they do. And that set is restored, this set is in all original condition from what I can see. I have resisted the urge to polish the set and have left the scattered light patina on it just the way I found it. Now to describe this set. 3 of the pieces are marked WMFB and (as) which is the finish stamp and stands for (antique silver) the B at the end of the normal WMF stamp stands for Britannia base metal and this stamp is considered to be Rare, it was used as early as 1880 up until 1918. The sugar bowl has a different mark having the WMF Ostrich stamp with a B to the left meaning Britannia base metal and the letters OX in a square which means oxidized finish which is the same as antique finish so the sugar bowl having a different style of WMF stamp. It is the same as the other 3. And the two different stamps where used during the same time period. The later from 1900 to 1918. The tray has no markings that I can find but is in very good condition with light scratching from the tea set but nothing that won’t polish out. This set is in very good to excellent all over condition with the only issue that I see is the hinge on the lid of the creamer is broken and has been that way for a long time please see last picture, it could easily be fixed by a silversmith or jeweler. But the lid sets on the creamer just fine for display or take it off if you wanted to use it as most of the tea sets of this type don’t have a lid on the creamer. There are no other issues with the set, it is just how you see it and as I have described but feel free to ask questions and I will help in any way I can.
